Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo has appointed Kelly Martin as the supervising attorney for the City Attorney’s Airport Division and general counsel to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).

Los Angeles World Airports is the city agency that owns and operates four airports in Southern California, including Los Angeles International (LAX), LA/Ontario International, Van Nuys and LA/Palmdale airports.

Martin previously served as chief of staff for former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, with direct oversight of Los Angeles World Airports.

“Working closely with Kelly over the years, I have seen firsthand her outstanding leadership and constant professionalism,” Delgadillo said of Martin.

“I have no doubt she will continue to be an invaluable asset to the City of Los Angeles and add considerable expertise to the complex issues surrounding our airports.”

Prior to joining Riordan’s staff, Martin had a varied and distinguished legal career, Delgadillo said.

A graduate of the University of Southern California Law Center, Martin also serves on the board of trustees of Southwestern University School of Law.

“Kelly is one of the smartest and toughest lawyers I know,” Riordan said. “She’ll be a strong addition to the City’s Attorney’s Office.”

As general counsel to Los Angeles World Airports, Martin will be responsible for supervising attorneys and support staff assigned to provide legal counsel to the airports.

As general legal counsel for the agency, Martin will be in charge of providing advice to both Los Angeles World Airports and the Board of Airport Commissioners, negotiating and drafting leases, contracts, concession agreements and other transactional documents.

In addition, Martin will be responsible for all litigation matters.

“I’m delighted at the opportunity to join the city attorney’s team and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead,” Martin said.
