receives HALO award for environmental work
Santa Monica High School senior Megan Kilroy has been honored with a HALO (Helping and Leading Others) Award for her environmental work and inspirational leadership with Samohi’s Team Marine.
Kilroy was presented with the award during a ceremony December 11th aired on Nickelodeon and attended by celebrities including Justin Timberlake, Hayden Panettiere, LeBron James, Alicia Keys and Nick Cannon. Three other teenagers also received a HALO Award at the event.
Kilroy was awarded $20,000, half of which she says will go towards her college education and the other half to help continue her work with Samohi’s Team Marine.
This is the first year for the TeenNick HALO Awards. They are given to teenagers in the United States who have made a positive impact in their community.
Nick Cannon, chairman of TeenNick and one of the celebrities who presented the awards, is the creator, host, and executive producer of the HALO Awards.
Team Marine has also received a My Better Lifestyle Award from the Los Angeles Lakers and East West Bank, as well as the Climate Community Award.
