The Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum in Santa Monica is displaying a 30-foot holiday “Tree of Life” in the lobby of the mausoleum this holiday season. The cemetery is at 1847 14th St. in Santa Monica, across from Santa Monica College.
The purpose of the pine tree is to allow individuals and families the opportunity to visit the mausoleum and to hang an ornament on the tree in memory of a loved one who has passed away.
The cemetery will provide the ornaments, which can be personalized.
At the end of the holiday season, the tree will be planted on the grounds of the cemetery as an everlasting memory.
Because the holiday season can be a very difficult time for many people who have experienced the death of a loved one and in an effort to make this time a little bit more bearable, cemetery staff say they invite the community to participate in the Tree of Life program.
A complimentary booklet entitled, Thoughts for the HolidaysÖ Finding Permission to Grieve, will also be distributed.
The ornaments will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Wednesday, December 24th.
