A memorial service for Donna Barrett Gilbert will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 30th, at the Woodlawn Cemetery, 1847 14th St., Santa Monica. A celebration of her life will follow at the Sarlo residence in Malibu.
She passed away Saturday, July 17th, following a brief illness. She was 60.
A successful hair stylist for 40 years in the entertainment industry, she was stylist to singer Kate Smith, worked with the Ed Sullivan Show at CBS, the Red Skelton Show, the Smothers Brothers Show and the Carol Burnett Show.
She received an Emmy Award for the television version of The Miracle Worker and an outstanding achievement award for her wigs last year.
She also worked with those with hair loss through her company, Hair Again.
Among her activities was working with the ChildHelp USA charity.
Most recently she lived in Playa Vista and earlier in Malibu, Aspen, Dallas and Scottsdale.
A Santa Monica native, she grew up on the Westside of Los Angeles and graduated from Venice High School.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Greg LaRue; her son David Sturt; her sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Allen Sarlo; her niece and nephew, Sophia and Colton Sarlo; and her mother, Pauline Barrett.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to ChildHelp USA.
