Santa Monica resident Dr. Michael F. McGuire has been elected vice president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

McGuire, an associate clinical professor of surgery at UCLA who has a private practice in Santa Monica, was elected at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in Baltimore earlier this month.

The society is said to be the largest society of board-certified plastic surgeons in the world, with over 6,000 members.

The society has 63 committees working on all aspects of plastic surgery, including research, education, legislative advocacy, communications, federal and state affairs and a wide range of member benefits.

McGuire has been the chief of plastic surgery at St. John’s Health Center for over ten years. Previously, he served as president of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, president of what is considered to be the largest national association accrediting office-based surgery centers and president of the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for California, Lumetra.

McGuire lives in Santa Monica Canyon and enjoys gardening and bicycling in his spare time.
