Santa Monica will hold its first annual “Kids to Parks Day” Saturday, May 21 as part of a national event led by the National Park Trust.

The event is a component of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative to implement comprehensive long-term approaches to reducing childhood obesity.

Santa Monica will help kick off “Kids to Parks Day” with a morning of outdoor fun beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Virginia Avenue Park, 2200 Virginia Ave. There will be races, an obstacle course, physical fitness stations and other activities.

“Active kids are healthy kids,” said Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom. “We are thrilled to support this national movement to reconnect youth with the outdoors.

“Santa Monica is fortunate to have a wealth of parks and recreation resources, making it easy for residents to participate in ‘Kids to Parks Day.’”

The city is encouraging children of all ages to get outdoors and enjoy one of the many parks that Santa Monica has to offer.
