The Santa Monica Police Department hosted a ‘National Night Out’ against crime block party in front of the Public Safety Facility at 333 Olympic Drive from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 5th.

Over 11,000 communities across the country participated in the free nationwide event to promote community safety.

Santa Monica’s National Night Out had a carnival theme and included a rock climbing wall, a dunk tank and carnival games with prizes.

There was also live music, free food and drinks, a ballet folklorico dance recital and a Police Activities League (PAL) martial arts demonstration.

In attendance were McGruff the Crime Dog, Smokey Bear, the Santa Monica Police Department SWAT Team, K-9 Unit, Motor Unit and Mounted Patrol Unit, as well as members from the Santa Monica police and fire departments.

Some of the sponsors included the Santa Monica Police Officers’ Association, Claude Short Auto Sales, 7-Eleven at Lincoln and Pico Boulevards, Trader Joe’s, Famima on the Third Street Promenade, Ocean Park Pizza and the Santa Monica Lion’s Club.
