Registration has begun for the annual National Singles Paddle Tennis Tournament scheduled Saturday, September 30th, and Sunday, October 1st, at the Venice Beach Recreation Center, 1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice.
The paddle tennis tournament will include eight divisions — men’s open A and B; women’s open B and C; masters (age 35 and older); and youths (age 15 and younger).
Each grouping may be limited to a maximum of 16 participants, with a minimum of six competitors needed for a division to be contested.
The double-elimination tournament will be conducted under United States Paddle Tennis Association rules.
Players use solid paddles made of wood or graphite, and a regulation tennis ball that is punctured to reduce the air pressure, as well as the amount of bounce.
The court is smaller than, but similar in proportion to, a traditional tennis court.
The style of play and scoring is much like, but not identical to, the tennis game that is played at the U.S. Open and Wimbledon.
Registration is $35 per player.
Trophies will be given to the top finishers in each division, and all players will receive a tournament T-shirt and refreshments.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 30th, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 1st.
