The G2 Gallery in Venice is presenting the photography exhibit Nature LA: Paula Goldman through Sunday, March 27.
An opening reception will be held in conjunction with First Friday on Abbot Kinney Boulevard Friday, March 4 at G2, 1503 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice.
The show features 20 images from Goldman’s nature series. For the series, Goldman, who teaches photography at UCLA Extension, sought out natural objects in various states of decay to photograph in her studio.
Her subjects consist of dead insects and brittle plant matter, which she says bring into focus the transient beauty of nature. Her images freeze a certain moment in time that the viewer might not have considered otherwise as she gives them a new context in her studio, a G2 spokesperson said.
“The emotional content of nature is Š often culturally harnessed, used to symbolize a lost, pure, spiritual worldŠ it is fascinating to me that these objects can be beautiful and rotting at the same time,” said Goldman, a Los Angeles resident.
This exhibition is presented as a part of the G2 Gallery’s ongoing series Nature LA. Curated by G2 Gallery director Jolene Hanson, Nature LA brings into focus the work of individual photographers based in the Los Angeles area whose passion is shooting in nature.
All proceeds from the sale of photography will benefit environmental causes.
