The Venice Neighborhood Council plans to select two new community officers from over 15 applications at its Board of Officers meeting Tuesday, November 18th. Two vacant positions on the council Land Use and Planning Committee will also be filled.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Westminster Elementary School auditorium, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice.
Neighborhood Council members said the large number of applications for these vacancies reflects a historic interest in the council and its mission to improve the quality of life in Venice. The process for filling the vacancies included presentations from applicants and written questions and answers which can be found on the Neighborhood Council’s Web site, www.venicenc .org/.
Venice community stakeholders will be asked to ratify the selections of the board at a later date.
The council also plans to take a position regarding changes to rules governing financial disclosure by Neighborhood Council members that have been proposed by the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission. These controversial changes have led to predictions of resignations of many Neighborhood Council board members while severely reducing the pool of candidates for future council positions, council members say.
Other motions to be considered include funding for two community improvement projects, one from the Environmental Committee regarding recycling bins in Venice and the other from the Outreach Committee to provide public speaking and acting training for community teens.
Donations for the Venice Neighborhood Council Food Drive will also be accepted at this meeting. Snacks and coffee will be provided.
