Barry Rondinella has been appointed as the new director for airport operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Rondinella will be responsible for managing the new Airport Response Coordination Center, as well as day-to-day activities of Airside Operations and Landside Operations, airport officials said. Additional responsibilities include airfield and terminal operations; roadways; the LAX Customer Service Program; and supervision of duty managers, gate control and emergency response.
Rondinella comes to LAX from the Sacramento County Airport System, where he served as deputy director of operations and was responsible for all facets of that airport’s safety, security and operations functions. Prior to Sacramento he served as airport director of the Stockton Metropolitan Airport and the Santa Maria Public Airport.
Rondinella holds a bachelor of science degree in aviation administration from California State University-Los Angeles. He is an accredited airport executive as certified by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), of which he is a past president of the South West Chapter. He is also a certified airport executive of AAAE.
Rondinella holds a commercial pilot’s license and has logged hundreds of hours in high-performance, multi-engine jet aircraft.
