A 24-year veteran in public transit has taken over as chief operations officer of Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus.

Patrick Campbell, who formerly served as general manager of MV Transportation’s paratransit system in Brooklyn, NY and director of transportation for the Capital District Transit Authority of Albany, NY, joined Big Blue Bus on Nov. 28.

“I am very pleased that Patrick is joining us. He brings a depth and breadth of both operations and maintenance experience to BBB and will fit in well with our team,” said Ed King, director of the Big Blue Bus.

In his new role, Campbell will be responsible for day-to-day operations at the Big Blue Bus, including budgeting, strategic planning, capital improvement programs and training and staff development.

“I appreciate the opportunity to work for the Big Blue Bus and the city of Santa Monica as its new COO,” said Campbell. “I intend to work on streamlining our operations so that the people who utilize the services provided receive reliable, dependable and quality transportation.

“It is important to me to include everyone at all levels of the organization to achieve our goals and objectives and recognize each individual’s contribution.”

Campbell began his career in public transit in 1987. In his most recent position as MV Transportation general manager, he was responsible for operating a 280-vehicle paratransit fleet with a $40 million operation that provided over 3,000 one-way trips daily within all five boroughs of New York City. He also provided direction for a workforce of over 700 employees.
