The Electric Lodge in Venice will debut its new monthly pilot series “High Voltage” with a premiere performance of A Sinful Soiree by L.A. Follies, California’s precision kickline and dance ensemble, at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
The new series is part of an effort to coalesce local arts entertainment with the First Friday events on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, organizers said.
A Sinful Soiree is a mix of dance numbers and electro-swing music paying homage to 1930s American musical theater.
L.A. Follies, led by Colette Brandenburg and Shannon Zimmerman, gives a nod to the nostalgia of MGM’s grand musicals and Hollywood’s silver screen sirens, and works to provide entertainment that is reminiscent of the Gatsby days and The Ziegfeld Follies as well, a group spokesperson said.
The newly established dance company embraces the vaudevillian spirit of the early 20th century to the grandeur of the Hollywood musicals, with pieces ranging from pointe work to high precision kick lines, Bob Fosse-inspired jazz pieces, innovative rhythmic gymnastic pieces, and tap numbers.
The Electric Lodge is at 1416 Electric Ave., Venice.
Tickets are $20 pre-sale, or $25 at the door. For tickets,, or (310) 306-1854,
