November 18th luncheon

The League of Women Voters of Santa Monica is holding a luncheon for Eileen Fogarty, the new head of Santa Monica’s Planning and Community Development Department.

The public is invited to the luncheon, at noon Saturday, November 18th, at Back on Broadway Restaurant, 2024 Broadway, Santa Monica. Reservations are required, and the luncheon is $27 per person.

Fogarty was the planning and zoning director in Alexandria, Virginia from 2000 until her recent Santa Monica appointment and before that, she worked for 23 years in the planning departments of Santa Cruz and Annapolis, Maryland.

Fogarty come to Santa Monica with a reputation as a “turn-around specialist,” known for building consensus, resolving disputes and championing green technology and smart growth, according to press reports.

“I look forward to the opportunity to come to a city like Santa Monica where inclusiveness is valued and there is an established tradition of community involvement and commitment to livability and quality of life,” Fogarty told the City of Santa Monica’s Seascape newsletter last fall.

Guests are encouraged to bring their questions about plans for the Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place, the City Master Plan and other planning issues.
