Athletic sportswear company Nike and surfboard and surfwear manufacturer Hurley announced Novembr 12th a joint five-year endowment of $1 million in scholarships for fashion design students at Otis College of Art and Design in Westchester.

Roger Wyett, president and chief executive officer of Hurley, teamed with company chairman Bob Hurley to support the Otis Fashion Design Department with the endowment, which will provide scholarship support to outstanding students who upon graduation could have the opportunity with industry leaders such as Nike, Hurley and other international companies.

“With meaningful, long-term support, Nike has set the standard for all other corporate partners to follow,” noted Otis president Samuel Hoi. “This gift is an enlightened and generous investment into our creative future.”

Wyett added, “Nike’s absolute commitment toward creative, compelling and innovative design makes it exceptionally easy to support the work of Otis Fashion chair Rose Brantley and her team.

Nike contributed $750,000 and Hurley $250,000.

“We are delighted to commit $750,000 to the Nike endowed Scholarship Fund for Fashion Design,” Wyett continued. “Rose’s 25-year legacy in the fashion industry is second to none, and we are humbled to support efforts in this small way.”

“On behalf of Hurley, we are ecstatic to complement Nike’s generosity and contribute $250,000 to the fund,” said Hurley. “This important gift reflects our admiration for the extraordinary Otis alumni fashion designers who have made an indelible mark in the world of fashion through the longtime leadership of Ms. Brantley.”
