The ten- and 11-year-old players of the North Venice Little League All-Star baseball team captured the District 25 championship July 11th after winning all four games against their district competition.

The players include Deion Conerly, John Dewig, Kevin Flores, Dana Fox, Sara Garcia, Rudy Gonzalez, Julian Hart, Ryan Irwin, Marlowe Leal, Ryan Losman, Raymond Mancini, Vincent Medina, Tristan Perez and Gabriel Raygosa.

The team manager is Greg Losman and the coaches are Bob Hanna and Alex Flores.

The team had to defeat City of Angels, Santa Monica National, Culver City and Beverly Hills Little Leagues to win the District 25 title this season.

North Venice took game one against City of Angels with a

decisive 11-2 victory.

Rudy Gonzalez hit an RBI (run batted in) triple in the fifth inning which was followed by a two-run home run by outfielder Tristan Perez. The game ended with a double play, as pitcher Losman struck out a City of Angels batter and catcher Fox threw out a runner attempting to steal third base.

After building an eight-run lead in game two against Santa Monica National, North Venice’s chance at a second win almost slipped away when Santa Monica pulled ahead in the fifth inning. Trailing 13-10 at the top of the sixth inning with one out, North Venice rallied with hits from Dewig, Medina and Perez.

With bases loaded, Conerly hit a grand slam to center field, putting North Venice back in the lead for good. The 18-13 victory was solidified with a solo home run blast by first baseman Flores.

In game three, pitcher Leal held Culver City to five runs on seven hits. Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth, North Venice put together a six run inning started by a lead-off walk by Raygosa. After walking Medina, Culver City loaded the bases with an intentional walk to Conerly.

A sacrifice fly by Perez brought in one run. Culver City then intentionally walked Flores to load the bases again. With a walk given to Dewig and a hit past the third baseman by Fox, North Venice took the lead. The final score was 10-7.

As North Venice entered its fourth and final district game, the team stood alone as the only undefeated team. Beverly Hills, North Venice’s last opponent, had come up from the losers bracket.

The game’s starting pitcher for North Venice, Dewig, gave up four runs on five hits. North Venice pulled ahead in the second inning by scoring two runs.

But Beverly Hills answered right away with two runs of its own.

With the hitting of Garcia, Hart, and Ryan in the third inning, North Venice scored eight runs on five hits. Raygosa’s hit put North Venice ahead for good with a bases-loaded ground ruled double.

Pitcher Losman helped preserve the 12-7 win, giving North Venice the 2007 District 25 championship.
