The North Venice Little League junior division all-star softball team captured the District 25 championship with a 10-5 victory over the host Malibu Little League softball team Sunday, July 9th.

The softball team joins the North Venice Little League junior division baseball team, which also won the District 25 title.

The Little League junior division includes softball players ages 13-14. District 25 consists of teams from Venice, Santa Monica, Culver City, Malibu, Playa Vista and Beverly Hills.

North Venice defeated Malibu 8-2 in the first game of the District 25 tournament Saturday, July 1st, after receiving a strong pitching performance by Celyna Nunez and key hits by Loren Hart and Stephanie Ordaz.

In a rematch game Saturday, July 8th, Malibu avenged the loss with a 9-3 victory over North Venice.

But in the third meeting between the two teams in the championship game July 9th, it was North Venice that came out on top again.

Malibu took the early lead by scoring four runs in the first inning and added another run in the second inning for a 5-2 advantage.

North Venice then began to charge back and tied the game with three runs in the third inning.

North Venice took the lead after scoring three runs in the fifth inning, and sealed the victory with two more runs in the sixth inning.

The team was lead by 13-year-old Cheyenne Sommo, who scored three runs and had two hits in the championship.

Fourteen-year-old Jenny Gonzalez and Ordaz each added two runs for North Venice.

The District 25 Little League softball champions will now move on to the Section Three tournament, which starts Friday, July 21st, and is hosted by the Westchester/Del Rey Little League.
