No one was injured in a fire that broke out at a single-family home in Playa del Rey near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Thursday, January 24th, fire officials said.

Approximately 18 Los Angeles city firefighters were called at 6:42 p.m. to the 200 block of Waterview Street in Playa del Rey, where a fire had been reported in the one-story residence.

Firefighters confined the blaze to one room in the home and were able to extinguish the fire in “less than nine minutes,” said Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) spokesman Brian Humphrey.

“It was a relatively small fire,” he said.

The cause of the fire and estimated damage are under investigation. A woman at the home may have been attempting to place a Christmas tree into the fireplace when the blaze broke out, Humphrey said.
