The Westchester First Fridays festivities Oct. 7 will include a kickoff fiesta for Caricabela, a Los Angeles-based Caribbean carnival.
The opening reception for the 14th annual Caricabela Carnival Road Show is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 7 at Scot Renfro Gallery, 8631 87th St., Westchester. The fiesta is presented by MARIKEL International in collaboration with Scot Renfro Gallery and the 87th Street Merchants Group, producers of Westchester First Fridays.
The Caricabela Carnival Road Show will feature Caribbean-themed costumes, headdresses, revelers, dancers, and music in the streets.
The Carnival Road Show is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at La Tijera Boulevard and Westchester Parkway, and will travel west on Manchester Avenue toward Westchester Park.
The parade is sponsored in part by a grant from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Admission is free to spectators.
Westchester First Fridays is an outdoor family event held on the first Friday of each month along 87th Street and features some of the finest gourmet food trucks in Los Angeles.
Participants who wish to be in the Road Show may register with one of the participating groups for $15 or register as an individual with their own costume for $20. Trophies will include Best Costume, Best Group and Best of Region. Children under 10 are free.
