MAESTRO Allen Robert Gross will lead Santa Monica’s newest full-scale orchestra in its first performance of classical works Saturday, Oct. 27 at Santa Monica High School.

The inaugural season of Orchestra Santa Monica will launch with its first performance of popular classic works at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Barnum Hall on the Santa Monica High School campus, 600 Olympic Blvd.
The full-scale orchestra will perform three concerts during the 2012-13 season.
Maestro Allen Robert Gross, former music director of the Santa Monica Symphony, will lead the orchestra, which was formed by a dedicated group of individuals who wanted to continue providing symphonic concerts for Santa Monica residents.
“I am so pleased to be able to continue leading high quality orchestral concerts in Santa Monica,” said Gross. “I believe that a symphony orchestra represents the best cultural aspirations of a community and provides an irreplaceable enrichment to our lives.”
The driving force behind the “local-minded orchestra” will be its community advisory board, concert organizers say. Gary Bovyer, principal clarinetist of the orchestra and an educator, notes, “Orchestra Santa Monica is special because so many of its musicians reside in the Santa Monica area and want to serve the community through their music-making,”
Orchestra Santa Monica will provide a series of in-school chamber music concerts and other performances that target the needs of local communities, say concert organizers.
