Outdoor Adventures, a Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors-sponsored series of outdoor activities, begins this week. The first offering will be a bird-watching event scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, March 22nd, in Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.
Other activities offered in the Outdoor Adventures program are harbor kayaking and surf kayaking.
For the bird watching activities, groups will visit sites throughout the Ballona Wetlands, where participants will observe various bird species competing for resources in the shoreline and vegetation habitat.
In addition to the session on Thursday, March 22nd, bird watching activities will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 24th; and 9 a.m. Thursdays, April 26th and June 28th.
Excursions are presented at no cost but preregistration is suggested. Each outing is approximately two hours long.
Harbor kayaking offers leisure outings in the Marina harbor for anyone ten years old and older, including families, for whom double kayaks are available. Class size is limited to 15 participants.
Outings are from 11:30 am to 1:45 p.m. Saturdays, March 24th, April 21st, May 26th, June 16th, July 28th, August 25th, September 22nd, October 27th and November 10th.
Cost per outing is $25 for participants ten to 18 years of age, and $30 for participants ages 19 or older.
Surf kayaking will provide participants with the opportunity to kayak through the Marina del Rey harbor and head out to the north jetty, where they will surf the waves aboard sit-on-top kayaks.
Los Angeles County lifeguards will instruct the outings. Preregistration is required, as class size is limited to ten participants.
All classes are held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on March 24th, April 28th, May 26th, June 16th, July 28th, August 25th, September 22nd, October 27th and November 10th.
The cost per outing is $25 for participants ages ten to 18 years, and $30 for participants ages 19 and older.
