The Marina del Rey Outrigger Canoe Club has re-launched its youth program in partnership with the Santa Monica Police Activities League, the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica, the Boys & Girls Club of Venice and Santa Monica Explorers.
Through the program, youths will be able to learn how to paddle outrigger canoes, develop technique and teamwork, improve fitness and gain an appreciation and respect for the ocean, according to the Outrigger Canoe Club.
The free program is open to all boys and girls ages 11 to 18. The participating youths will have the opportunity to compete in regatta races against other youth-based teams of the same skill level.
Two introductory sessions are scheduled, at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 10th, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12th, at Mothers Beach on Palawan Way in Marina del Rey. Subsequent training sessions are tentatively scheduled at 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In order to participate in the program, youths are asked to fill out the liability release form on the outrigger club Web site below and attend one of the introductory sessions.
