The American Red Cross of Santa Monica announced May 18th that a matching fund will “double” donations made to the chapter before June 30th.
The Colonel F.E. Pacheco and Lt. Mary T. Pacheco Matching Fund will match any gift up to $25,000. For example, a personal donation of $500 will be matched by the Pacheco fund, turning it into a $1,000 donation to the chapter.
This matching gift comes at a very important time, chapter officials say, as the chapter is nearing the end of its fiscal year and is in need of funding to continue its programs.
Services such as the Red Cross Youth Leadership Program, which has provided thousands of youth with leadership building, basic jobs and life skills, are running out of money and are in danger of closing, according to a chapter spokesman.
Additional services such as education and disaster preparedness are also facing reduction.
Monetary donations made at this time “can significantly increase the impact” of a private contribution since it will be immediately matched, thus doubling the amount of the donation, the spokesperson said.
The American Red Cross of Santa Monica is privately funded and does not receive government or taxpayer support. The chapter’s ability to provide services is directly dependent on the generosity of individuals and private community support.
The American Red Cross of Santa Monica is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. All contributions go to the chapter and support a variety of local programs including disaster services, health and safety education and youth programs.
