There are a few aspects within the Marina del Rey boating community that somehow define what it’s all about. Some are big productions that reach out to all of Los Angeles like the recently held Marina del Rey Boat Show, some are prestigious events like the upcoming Star Class Olympic trials hosted by the California Yacht Club, while others are far more low-key but have more character.

One such event is the informal swap meet staged every year by Pacific Mariners Yacht Club (PMYC), and it’s always a highlight for boaters in the Marina del Rey area.

This year, it will be held Saturday, June 9th, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 13915 Panay Way in Marina del Rey.

With no pomp and no circumstance, the swap meet happens on the small, hard parking lot of the PMYC grounds on Panay Way, where people simply put out their used boat gear on old tables to try to sell. Every year boaters wind up with something that they’ve been looking for that they couldn’t find or with something they didn’t know they wanted, but wondered how they have done without.

Typically, the PMYC swap meet is a marine potluck at its best. Although one can find non-marine stuff at the swap meet as well, it’s most noted for the great boat-related finds that have been had through the many years that it has existed.
