A Westchester High School parent involvement orientation meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 18th,

to inform parents about three committees they might want to be on that are required by the Los Angeles Unified School District and federally-funded Title I grant programs.

The meeting will be at the high school library, 7400 Manchester Ave., Westchester.

The election of parent representatives to these committees will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 26th.

– The School Site Council is the current governing body of the high school.

This is a group of parents, teachers, other staff and community members who meet monthly to review and approve policies, budgets and other school business.

– The Compensatory Education Advisory Committee consists of parents of Title I students.

This committee meets monthly to address the educational needs of economically disadvantaged students, support the school and work cooperatively to increase academic achievement.

– The English Learner Advisory Committee advises and makes recommendations to the principal and School Site Council on the implementation of programs, evaluation of programs and services for English language learners.

The school’s other parent groups will be available with information tables to show parents other options for involvement.

Those parent groups are the Parent Teacher Student Association, Booster Club, Academic Booster Club, the Westchester/ Playa del Rey Education Foundation and a group for 2007 accreditation site volunteers.
