Paseo del Rey Natural Science Magnet Elementary School in Playa del Rey is holding a silent auction and pancake breakfast fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20th, at the school, 7751 Paseo del Rey.

All proceeds go directly to the school for educational enrichment that funds from Los Angeles Unified School District do not cover.

Tickets for the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast are $4.

The silent auction and Hawaii vacation raffle begin at 10 a.m.

Guests can bid for items such as gift certificates for summer camps, hotel stays, merchandise, sports events, restaurants, spa days, and student-designed theme baskets.

The grand prize drawing is for an eight-day trip for two to Maui, Hawaii.

Also scheduled is the Paseo Idol Talent Show, in which students dance, sing, and play musical instruments.

The fundraiser is sponsored by the Paseo Parent Teacher Association and Friends of Paseo del Rey booster club.

Paseo del Rey’s other fundraising activities include a component of donating to the community and other charities.

This year, the previously held Mardi Gras fundraiser was dedicated to the students of Bethune Elementary School in New Orleans. The school was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Paseo del Rey students sold nearly $1,000 worth of Mardi Gras beads and the proceeds are being used by Bethune students to purchase new school uniforms.

The two school principals, Jennifer Sullivan of Paseo del Rey and Mary Smith of Bethune, are organizing a student pen pal project.
