The Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology will hold its inaugural COASTAL 5K/10K walk/run and “Kiddie K” at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa del Rey Saturday, Jan. 29.
The “Children’s Outreach: Advancing Social Transformation and Learning” (COASTAL) 5K/10K event will support children’s initiatives of schools that lead to a prosperous adulthood, an event spokesperson said.
The event is organized by the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology and sponsored by Comerica Bank.
Funds raised will go toward preparing K-12 teachers for service in urban areas; counseling for families who cannot afford it (via the School of Education and Psychology’s Community Counseling Clinics); and caring for homeless children (through the school’s partnership with the Union Rescue Mission and Hope Gardens).
The 5K is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., followed by the 10K at 8:30 a.m., and “Kiddie K” for youths at 9:45 a.m., at the Imperial Highway entrance to Dockweiler Beach.
Entrance fees for the 5K/10K are $30 until Jan. 27 and $35 until Jan. 28, or $15 for the Kiddie K.
