The Rotary Club of Venice Marina will celebrate the 65th anniversary of its founding at a fundraising dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 19th, at the California Yacht Club, 4469 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey.
The Rotary Club will honor photographer and Villa Marina resident Greg Wenger with a lifetime achievement award for 38 years of community leadership.
Marina area resident Wenger is being honored for his “years of devoted volunteer service to organizations which strive to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Venice, Marina del Rey and the Mar Vista area,” Rotary officials said.
Wenger has served as the president of the Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce; the Marina Foundation, which added the Nautical Addition to the Lloyd Taber Marina del Rey Library; and the Villa Marina Homeowners Association.
He is a director of the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce and chairs the Marina Affairs Committee.
Wenger is a director of the Sheriff’s Support Unit, the Sheriff’s Community Advisory Committee and alternate director of the Marina del Rey Convention and Visitors Bureau.
He also advises the Holiday Boat Parade organization and is a photographer for The Argonaut.
Rotary International is considered the world’s largest and oldest volunteer service organization of business and professional leaders who help those in need in their own communities, as well as those in impoverished countries, Rotary officials said.
The Rotary Club of Venice Marina has funded over $1 million in support of organizations including; Venice High School Academic Awards and Visual Arts and Crafts Awards, McBride Elementary School for the Physically Challenged, Boys & Girls Club of Venice, Penmar, Westminster and Oakwood Senior Citizens Centers, Venice Fire Station 63, “Project Amigos-Mexico,” as well as international projects of Rotary International.
“Service Above Self” is the Rotary motto. In recognition of Wenger’s community service, a portion of the fundraiser proceeds will be given to the Venice High School Photography Department.
A table sponsorship for a seating of ten is $1,000 and individual seats are $85.
