Venice: Yesterday/Today, an exhibit featuring images taken in the exact locations as vintage photographs from the archives of the Venice Historical Society, will open Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Universal Art Gallery.

Also entitled Still Crazy After All These Years, the show includes recent photos by Helen K. Garber matching scenes from the archival Venice images, such as Muscle Beach and Windward Avenue.

An opening reception is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Universal Art Gallery, 2001 Lincoln Blvd., Venice. Light refreshments will be provided.

Venice photographer Garber and Jill Prestup, the president of the Venice Historical Society, went through the society’s archives and maps to identify where the vintage images were taken. Garber then re-created the shots in the exact location and collaborated with fine art printer Titano Cruz to create photographic diptychs showing both images together.

The works have been framed in museum quality by Universal Art Gallery, according to the organizers.

Spearheaded by Garber, the project is a collaboration between the artist, the Venice Historical Society and Universal Art Gallery owner Lucas DaSilva.

The exhibit runs until Oct. 14.
