The Professional Helicopter Pilots Association presented Helicopter Day at Santa Monica Airport on Saturday, March 25th.
More than 30 helicopters used by fire departments, search and rescue, aero-medical organizations, corporate transportation companies, flight training schools, the military, news stations, and radio stations were on display for children and families to view.
Pilots and owners were on hand to discuss issues related to flying helicopters.
Also present was pilot Larry Welk from KCAL-9’s chopper.
Helicopter doors were opened to allow people to sit inside the cockpit and rides in the air were available to those who purchased tickets early in the morning.
Proceeds from the event will be used to promote the association’s helicopter education and safety programs.
