Authorities are continuing to search for a Playa del Rey man who was reported missing Tuesday, April 8th, after he rented a motorboat in Marina del Rey that was later found unoccupied drifting off-shore.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is asking for the public’s help in locating Daniel Balour, a self-employed Playa del Rey resident who owns a carpeting business, said Detective Bruce Kuehl of the LAPD Missing Persons Unit.

Balour was last seen renting a motorboat alone from Marina Boat Rentals at Fisherman’s Village in Marina del Rey at about 11:45 a.m. April 8th, Kuehl said.

Lifeguards found the boat unoccupied about two hours later at 1:50 p.m. drifting approximately 300 yards off-shore near Navy Street in Venice, Kuehl said. There was no evidence of foul play discovered on the boat, he said. The boat had all required safety equipment on board when it was rented by Balour, he added.

A search was immediately begun for Balour by the Los Angeles Police Department, along with Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards, the Sheriff’s Department Marina del Rey Station and the U.S. Coast Guard. No items have been found in the water.

Balour is described as a white male, 40 years old, six feet tall, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark windbreaker jacket and dark slacks.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with additional information regarding the whereabouts of Balour is asked to contact the LAPD Missing Persons Unit at (213) 485-5381. After-hours or weekend calls may be directed to a 24-hour toll free number at (877) 529-3855 (877-LAWFULL).
