The Playa Vista Beach Shuttle is being expanded to provide service to Marina del Rey beginning Saturday, July 1st, and continuing through Labor Day Monday, September 4th, in a partnership between the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors and Playa Vista.
The clean-fuel shuttles will pick up local residents hourly from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, with extended hours for the Saturday evening Pop Concerts.
There will also be service on the Thursday evenings of the Marina del Rey Summer Concert Series.
The shuttles have space available for bicycles and are open to the public at no charge.
The beach shuttle service will connect with the Marina del Rey WaterBus, providing weekend boat transportation to six boarding locations throughout the Marina including Fisherman’s Village, Burton Chace Park, the Waterfront Walk, Mothers Beach, Dolphin Marina and Marina Harbor, which will operate from Friday June 30th, through Monday, September 4th. See map and schedule on preceding page.
WaterBus riders can call (310) 628-3219 for an on-call pickup or head for a boarding location and a dock attendant will hail the WaterBus. Bicycles are also allowed on the WaterBus for passengers seeking an alternative way to travel to the beach areas.
“We are delighted that the Playa Vista Beach Shuttles will be able to connect with our Marina del Rey WaterBus to form a seamless transport system on weekends throughout the Marina,” said County Supervisor Don Knabe. “I’m proud to contribute funding to enable this expanded service, for the first time to the public at large.”
“Playa Vista is proud to team up with the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors to serve not only our own residents with this low-emission shuttle service, but all local beach visitors,” said Playa Vista president Steve Soboroff. “This is just one way we’re aiming to take people out of their cars and improve traffic flow throughout the area.”
A special beach shuttle schedule will operate during the Marina del Rey Summer Concert Series to drop off and pick up passengers at Burton Chace Park. The shuttles will operate from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Classical Thursdays — July 13th and 27th; and August 10th and 24th.
Shuttle hours will be extended to 11 p.m. on Pop Saturdays—July 22nd; August 5th and 19th; and September 2nd.
The beach shuttle’s regular schedule will start at the Playa Vista retail parking lot at 8:15 a.m. and continue throughout Marina del Rey and Venice at the same time each hour during the day.
Major stops along the route include Admiralty Way and Fiji Way, Admiralty Way and Admiralty Park, Admiralty Way and Palawan Way, Via Marina and Panay Way, Washington Boulevard and Pacific Avenue, Washington Boulevard and Via Marina, Admiralty Way and Mindanao Way with the return to Playa Vista.
The Playa Vista Beach Shuttle service debuted last summer, making stops in both Playa del Rey and Marina del Rey. More than 1,800 people utilized the shuttle during the course of the service last year, with the largest number of people visiting the beach areas over the Fourth of July holiday.
