This holiday season the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) is ticketing good drivers as part of its Safe Driver “Ticket” campaign.

The police department and Santa Monica Big Blue Bus have joined forces to encourage people to operate their vehicles safely, reduce traffic congestion and keep the environment green by staying out of their cars whenever possible.

In addition to regular enforcement, police officers and traffic services officers who observe people operating their vehicle safely are rewarding those people for their actions.

Through Monday, January 1st, people who are observed being courteous, cautious and promoting public safety or taking actions to reduce traffic on the streets and parking lots, may be given a Safe Driver “Ticket,” police said. The “ticketing” started Monday, November 27th.

The Safe Driver “Ticket” entitles people to two free round trips on any Big Blue Bus and a free ride on the holiday Shoppers Shuttle.

The Santa Monica Police Department and Big Blue Bus ask people to drive and park safely at all times and suggest that they try out alternative methods of commuting to reduce traffic congestion.

The Big Blue Bus has routes throughout Santa Monica, extending into Los Angeles, and serves a 51-square mile area.

Safe Driver ticket recipients can try any Big Blue Bus line free.
