A 64-year-old man was arrested Thursday, February 4th after Los Angeles police said they discovered approximately 100 firearms, including about 20 machine guns, in a Mar Vista home.

Following a weeks-long undercover operation, officers with the LAPD gang and narcotics gun detail served a search warrant at 5:30 a.m. at a home in the 12700 block of Woodgreen Street, south of Palms Boulevard in Mar Vista, said officer April Harding, LAPD spokeswoman.

Officers called the LAPD bomb squad after searching the home and finding numerous explosive devices, she said. The surrounding area was cleared of residents as the bomb squad detonated some of the explosives and rendered them safe, police said.

As the search continued, officers located firearms, including 20 or more machine guns throughout the home, Harding said. Police arrested Brian David Cochran at the home and booked him for possession of machine guns, she said.

Police did not disclose how Cochran allegedly came into possession of the weapons cache or its intended use, saying the case remains under investigation. A call to the law offices of Brian David Cochran at 12707 Woodgreen St. was not returned.

Cochran was released on $45,000 bail and he is scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday, February 25th.
