Santa Monica police have arrested a 28-year-old Hawthorne man who allegedly robbed a woman as she was about to go jogging early Saturday, July 24.
Police were called at 7 a.m. to the 200 block of Georgina Avenue in Santa Monica, where a woman told them that she was preparing for a run when a suspect approached her and asked for directions.
During the conversation, the suspect allegedly struck the woman in the face and took her purse that contained a cell phone and credit cards, Sgt. Jay Trisler said. The suspect then fled in a vehicle when the victim fell to the ground, Trisler said.
Further investigation by Santa Monica police detectives led them to identify the suspect and where he lived. Detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s Hawthorne residence where they allegedly recovered some of the woman’s belongings, Trisler said.
Officers also allegedly discovered a white powdery substance resembling cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s possession, he said.
The suspect, identified as Gregory Archie, was arrested and booked for robbery, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and parole violation, and he was not eligible for bail, Trisler said.
