A small fire that broke out inside the Santa Monica High School boys’ locker room in the south gymnasium Jan. 31 is being investigated as a possible arson related incident, authorities said.

Santa Monica firefighters were called at 1:53 p.m. to the locker room on the Samohi campus, 601 Pico Blvd., regarding a report of a fire, Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which damaged approximately 10 lockers and caused moderate smoke damage to the locker room, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.

Arson investigators from the Santa Monica Fire Department and Santa Monica Police Department are conducting a joint investigation of the suspicious fire, Lewis said. The investigation is ongoing.
