Santa Monica police are looking for the driver of a vehicle who was allegedly involved in a felony hit and run accident that killed one person and injured five others on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica Thursday night, March 26th.

The driver of a black SUV was traveling northbound in the number two lane between the 500 and 600 blocks of the PCH at about 9:05 p.m., when the vehicle suddenly swerved to the left and collided with a silver Lexus in the number one lane, police said.

The collision caused the Lexus to lose control and cross into the southbound lanes of the highway, where it struck a Honda Accord head-on, police said. The head-on collision subsequently caused another collision with another vehicle traveling southbound, police said.

The driver of the black SUV fled the scene of the multi-vehicle accident without rendering aid or identifying himself or herself, Santa Monica police Sgt. Renaldi Thruston said.

One person was transported to a local hospital and later died of injuries sustained in the crash, Thruston said. Five other people sustained minor to moderate injuries and were treated at local hospitals.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact Santa Monica police investigator Chris Dawson at (310) 458-8954, Sgt. Larry Horn at (310) 458-8950, or the watch commander at (310) 458-8427.
