Los Angeles police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 52-year-old Venice woman who was reported missing in July.

Nancy Barrett was last seen at about 4:45 p.m. July 14 in the area of her home in the 2600 block of Grand Canal Court in Venice, police said. Prior to her disappearance, Barrett had moved from her apartment to her car, which was parked in front of her former home, police said.

She then abandoned her possessions and car, which was located, and left the area and she has not been seen or heard from since her departure, police said.

Friends and family told police that Barrett was distraught over the loss of a pet that had been ill. Police have been in contact on a regular basis with family members, who are from out of state and are extremely concerned for her welfare, said officer Carmine Sasso of the Los Angeles Police Department Missing Persons Unit.

A citizen reported a possible sighting of Barrett near a store on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 6, Sasso said. The LAPD has been coordinating with the Santa Monica Police Department in the search effort.

Police believe Barrett may still be in the Venice, Santa Monica or the surrounding coastal areas.

Barrett is described as a white woman with brown hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. She may have been wearing green cargo pants and a tan sweater.

Anyone who has seen, or may have information regarding Barrett’s whereabouts is asked to contact the LAPD Missing Persons Unit at (213) 996-1800, or (877) 527-3247 during weekends and non-business hours.
