Santa Monica police are looking for a man who allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment on 12th Street in Santa Monica and cut her with a knife during a fight late Monday, April 28th, police said.

Police were called at 11:45 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 1200 block of 12th Street, where a woman was assaulted with a knife, Santa Monica police Lt. Alex Padilla said. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for several lacerations and released.

The victim was home alone and asleep when she was awakened by a suspect who was armed with a knife, Padilla said. The suspect allegedly fought with the woman and stabbed her with the knife before fleeing the apartment on foot, he said.

It appeared that the suspect entered the woman’s residence through a partially open window, Padilla said. The suspect is described only as a male.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police are reminding residents to be careful about leaving their windows and doors unlocked during the coming warm summer nights.
