The Mar Vista Family Center in Del Rey will hold its annual holiday posada beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Over 200 children, youths and adults have been invited to attend the traditional posada, which brings together families and members of the community for a cultural event as they reenact the scene of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ.

Teenagers from the By Youth for Youth program will dress up as Mary and Joseph and will walk down Slauson Avenue with community members following singing of traditional Spanish Christmas carols. This celebration gives children and youths the opportunity to learn more about cultural traditions and brings the community together, center officials say.

There will be a pi—ata and other activities for children, in addition to free hot drinks like coffee, champurado, hot fruit punch, hot chocolate, sweet bread, cookies and tamales for all who attend.

The Mar Vista Family Center is at 5075 S. Slauson Ave., Del Rey.
