Santa Monica College adjunct photography professor Marissa Lopez-Donatt will be a presenter at a professional photographers conference in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday, March 24th, through Thursday, March 29th.
She pioneered Spanish-language photography courses at the college and has been honored for her projects with low-income children, college officials said.
Her presentation on “Illuminating Creativity” will be made in Spanish at the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International convention and trade show.
Early in her career, Lopez-Donatt, of Torrance, started a photography program for low-income children that culminated in an exhibit of the children’s work at the college’s Photography Gallery. For this project, she was honored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina.
Lopez-Donatt, a college alumna, teaches a range of photo classes at the college through the regular academic program and through continuing education.
Her first class at the college was “groundbreaking” in that it was taught to Spanish-speaking students in their native tongue, college officials said.
She is also the owner of La Foto Incorporated, a Santa Monica-based commercial photography studio, lab, gallery and educational center that offers photo classes.
