The Marina del Rey Local Coastal Program (LCP) public hearing and action on the periodic review of implementation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 9th, at the Marina del Rey Hotel, 13534 Bali Way, Marina del Rey.
The long-awaited review was scheduled in Marina del Rey after numerous requests by local residents who said that scheduling it elsewhere kept a majority of individuals from attending this crucial hearing.
The Marina del Rey Local Coastal Program was recertified in 1996 by the California Coastal Commission, but not reviewed, and local resident Don Klein said that this scheduled review would be the first in 15 years or longer.
Opponents of development in the Marina have long maintained that many of the proposed developments and their individual requested variances as approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors don’t conform to the existing LCP and are essentially illegal.
Opponents said that county officials need to put a master plan in place for development in the Marina, rather than “piece-mealing” each project on an individual basis.
