The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks is scheduled to host a workshop in Westchester Thursday, January 17th, to assess community needs for city recreation activities and parks.

The workshop is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Westchester Recreation Center, 7000 Manchester Ave., Westchester. The meeting is one of 15 to be held citywide this month and next month.

The two-hour forums will be interactive and will be facilitated by a consultant team, led by Mia Lehrer and Associates, that has been retained by the Department of Recreation and Parks.

“This is a chance for the community to let the city and the department know what they want — we look forward to having input from our patrons,” said Jon Kirk Mukri, Department of Recreation and Parks general manager.

The needs assessment will provide the department with information to use in planning for the future of city parks and programs.

The community meetings are one part of the program — focus groups, stakeholder interviews and elected official input are also part of the process, according to Lehrer of the consultant team.

For those who cannot attend a meeting, a link to a survey is available on the Recreation and Parks Web site, www.laparks .org/. The needs assessment blog will lead to the survey. It can be filled in on-line, mailed to the department or the consultant, or dropped off at a recreation center.
