The American Red Cross Santa Monica chapterís annual ìRed Tie Affairî raised nearly $150,000 for the organization March 28th.
More than 400 people were in attendance at the Fairmont-Miramar hotel in Santa Monica for the event, which saluted the medical profession and emergency medicine.
Red Tie honorees included the cast and crew of the new CBS daytime television show ìThe Doctors.î Jay McGraw, the showís executive producer, accepted the American Red Cross Crystal Cross Award for the showís contribution to the everyday understanding of medicine and health issues. Cast members of the show were also honored at the event.
The Rick Crocker Spirit of Volunteerism Award, named after a Santa Monica police officer who was killed while fighting in Iraq, was bestowed on Dr. Russ Kino, chief executive officer of Saint Johnís Emergency Specialists and medical director of Emergency Services at Saint Johnís Health Center. Santa Monica City Councilman Bobby Shriver presented the award.
The Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospitalís Nethercutt Emergency Center and the Saint Johnís Health Center Emergency Department also received a coveted Spirit Award.

The American Red Cross of Santa Monica is a nonprofit corporation that provides health and safety education, youth services, blood services, CPR and first aid training, disaster awareness and disaster relief efforts.
