Officials at the Santa Monica chapter of the American Red Cross said the disaster relief organization has a number of volunteer positions open for persons who live and work in the community and who are interested in donating their time.
The chapter is planning to staff a number of volunteer positions — front desk and telephone receptionists, blood services, computer and Web design, public relations, class instructors, fundraising, working in disaster preparedness and assisting the chapter’s youth program, considered one of the Santa Monica’s largest teen programs.
“This is an excellent opportunity for persons of all ages, including senior citizens and retirees, to become involved with the community and the good work of the American Red Cross,” said Tom Viscount, acting director of volunteers for the Santa Monica chapter.
Viscount added, “Working with the Red Cross is a rewarding experience.
“High school and college students can receive a valuable practical educational experience and learn how a business operates. Red Cross volunteerism looks great on resumes, too.
“It’s also a great opportunity for seniors, retirees or adults with free time to contribute their expertise and experience to the community while preparing people for emergencies and even saving lives.”
Information for volunteer opportunities, Tom Viscount, (310) 394-2772 ext. 112, from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
