The American Red Cross of Santa Monica will present its 2006 Spirit Awards Saturday, February 11th, at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica.
Tickets are $150 each or $1,500 for a table of ten.
This year’s honorees will be Kitty Dukakis, who is being recognized for her humanitarian efforts on behalf of youths worldwide and for her 2004 tsunami relief efforts.
A posthumous award will be given to Major Ricardo “Rick” Crocker, a Marine Corps reservist and Santa Monica Police Department officer who was killed in May in Iraq’s Al-Anbar province.
Crocker was a volunteer for the Santa Monica Red Cross chapter.
Spirit Awards will also be given to Lions Gate Entertainment and Activision Incorporated.
Both are Santa Monica companies that gave contributions to the local chapter and encouraged employees to volunteer for hurricane relief efforts.
The ceremony will include a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m. with dinner and awards beginning at 7:30 p.m. The mistress and master of ceremonies are Alley Mills and Orson Bean. The Tom Nolan Band will provide dance music.
Excerpts from a documentary about volunteers working Hurricanes Katrina and Rita relief efforts will be previewed. In addition, there will be a variety of music and comedic entertainment as well as recognition of some of the 100 local volunteers who journeyed to the Gulf Coast.
Ceremonies will mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of the American Red Cross and will launch the local chapter’s Community Disaster Response Fund.
