Registration is under way for the annual Los Angeles City Doubles Paddle Tennis Championships, scheduled Saturday and Sunday, July 15th and 16th, at the Venice Beach Recreation Center.

The event is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, July 15th, and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, July 16th.

Early registration is $60 per team through Wednesday, July 12th.

Multiple divisions will be contested, including men’s open, A and B; women’s open, B and C; masters (ages 35 and older); and youths (ages 15 and younger).

The double-elimination event will be conducted according to U.S. Paddle Tennis Association rules. Each division may be limited to a maximum of 16 teams, with a minimum of six pairs needed.

Players use solid paddles made of wood or graphite, and a regulation tennis ball that is punctured to reduce the air pressure, as well as the amount of bounce.

The court is smaller than, but similar to, a traditional tennis court. The style of play and scoring is much like, but not identical to, the tennis game that is played at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

Awards will be presented to the top two finishers in each division and all participants will receive a tournament souvenir and refreshments.

The Venice Beach Recreation Center, which is operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, is at 1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice.
