Former Santa Monica College (SMC) athletic director Rhonda Hyatt has been named director of the College of the Canyons recreation management program.

At the Valencia college, Hyatt, who is a Santa Clarita resident, will be responsible for the development and organization of the new recreation management courses and curriculum; the articulation of more program transfer agreements with surrounding four-year colleges and universities; the carrying out of various student outreach and recruitment efforts; and the development of community partnerships that will in turn foster increased recreational programs and educational opportunities.

Hyatt goes to College of the Canyons after spending the last four years as the athletic director at SMC, which is is searching for an interim athletic director.

Prior to that, Hyatt had a 20 year career at California State University, Northridge, where she was a head athletic trainer, adjunct faculty member and also spent four years as the assistant/ associate athletic director and a year as the senior associate athletic director.

Hyatt received an Ed.D. from UCLA, a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in athletic training from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
