Los Angeles police arrested a 16-year-old suspect Feb. 24 after he allegedly attempted to rob two people on a Del Rey street and hid inside a nearby home for hours.

The suspect was allegedly driving a stolen car near Chase and Louise avenues in Del Rey at about 9 p.m. Feb. 23, when he got out and attempted to rob two pedestrians while pretending to be armed, police said.

One of the citizens pepper-sprayed the suspect, who ran away and got back in the vehicle, said Sgt. Greg Probst of the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific division.

The suspect then apparently crashed the vehicle into a parked car in the area and was seen entering a home, where the residents were not home, police said.

LAPD SWAT officers and a canine unit were called to the scene and surrounded the home. Officers entered the home after releasing tear gas and found the suspect hiding under a bed, police said.

The juvenile was arrested without incident early Feb. 24 and no weapon was found, police said. No injuries were reported during the incident.
