Los Angeles Councilman Bill Rosendahl is encouraging local community members to help less fortunate families prepare for back-to-school time by donating school supplies.

In order to better equip Westside children for the upcoming academic year, the councilman is urging constituents to donate and drop off school supplies at any of his three council offices during business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday, Aug. 17.

All donations will go to low-income and/or homeless clients of the St. Joseph Center in Venice.

“Educating our children is a top priority for our district and community,” said Rosendahl. “Together we can provide homeless and low-income youth with some of the basic materials they will need in order to succeed.”

Some suggested items include writing utensils: pens, No. 2 pencils, lead, pencil sharpeners, erasers, white-out, highlighters, markers, crayons or colored pencils.

Other basics are also recommended: backpacks, spiral-bound or composition notebooks, 3-ring binders, notebook paper, calculators, rulers, glue sticks, liquid glue, scissors, pocket folders, scotch tape, staplers, index cards and red-ink pens.

Rosendahl’s Westchester office is at 7166 W. Manchester Ave. Information, (310) 568-8772.
